How to Upgrade a Subscription under New Commerce Experience (NCE)
Upgrading subscriptions enable resellers to take an existing paid subscription product to another paid subscription product. Upgrades can occur in full or partially. Details below on terminology used in this guide:
- Existing Subscription - refers to the current New Commerce Experience (NCE) product/SKU that has been provisioned as a subscription against a tenant in PRISM, that is being requested to be upgrade.

Subscription ID - refers to the unique ID attached to the subscription.
- New Subscription - refers to a new New Commerce Experience (NCE) product/SKU that is been requested to replace/upgrade the existing subscription that is being requested to be upgraded.
- Prerequisite Products - refers to an existing subscription's product family/group that is required to be active prior to an add on the product being able to be successfully provisioned
- Product - refers to New Commerce Experience (NCE) product/SKU that is provisioned as a subscription against a tenant.
- Coterminous - refers to the new subscription collecting the existing original subscriptions' end date as the upgrade occurs.
- Eligible Products - refers to which New Commerce Experience (NCE) existing product can be moved to which new subscriptions. Microsoft-CSP-NCE-Add-on-Prerequisite-List
- Full Upgrade - refers to when upgrading the existing subscription to the new subscription that the full quantity is moved to the new subscription
- Partial Upgrade - refers to when upgrading the existing subscription to the new subscription-only a portion of the quantity is moved to the new subscription, and the other portion remains on the existing subscription.
Note: upgrades are not available if the existing subscription is within the cancellation window is open.
Note: upgrading a subscription will not enable a cancellation window under the new subscription.
Upgrade functionality is now available within PRISM. This guide has been updated to reflect the release. With the automated process in place, manual upgrade requests are no longer accepted.
How to Request an Upgrade
- Within PRISM, navigate to the Microsoft CSP program tile
- Select the Manage Existing Tenants tile
- Select the tenant you would like to upgrade, from the tenant list by selecting Manage from the list of tenants.

Use the expand or manage option to see the subscription details
- Select Check for Upgrades to submit an upgrade request.

Partner Support will complete the upgrade, and the Program Operations team will coordinate any required invoicing. You will be notified once the process is complete. Upon completion of the upgrade, you will receive confirmation indicating whether it was successful or unsuccessful.
