Azure Spike Notifications are a way for you to receive notifications when an Azure subscription exceeds certain criteria, this feature is designed to assist with identifying crypto mining and/or fraudulent activity.
The Azure Spike Notification will review the estimated cost for the current month, and if there is a spike compared to the day before, notifications will be triggered. Azure Spike Notifications are configured at the Azure subscription level.
We are planning to release this functionality on the 5th of April, 2023.
Terminology
- Spike - Within the context of this feature, a spike is defined as when there is a comparatively sized upward movement of Azure usage within a short period of time that, with reference to the size of the usage appears unusual. The size of the movement in this scenario relates to the minimum spike amounts and increments in percentage.
- Notification - email notification sent from PRISM to configured notification contact
- Minimum Spike Amount - A dollar figure amount that is set as a daily threshold against the Azure subscription. Where if the daily Azure usage exceeds the said threshold as well as the increment in percentage, the spike notification is triggered.
- Increment in Percentage - A incremental percentage value that is set as a daily threshold against the Azure subscription. Where if the Azure usage has increased by said threshold from the previous day's usage, as well as the minimum spike amount, the spike notification is triggered.
- Email Address for Notifications - The email address that receives the Azure Spike Notifications.
